“Come out from among THEM”
Have you ever noticed how the word “Them” is used to describe someone outside of Christ?
Those who are outside of Christ are in “Sin”, which means they are in a group that is not recognized
by God. They are lost in a world of sin and on a pathway that leads to destruction. The apostle Paul warned the Christian
brethren in Corinth to “come out from among them”. (2nd Cor. 6:17) Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. But what’s
so wrong with having fellowship with them that are not in Christ? After all, weren’t we with them before we
came to Christ? Exactly, and that’s the problem. Why would we want to go back and fellowship with those who
are opposed to Christ? It’s hard enough to stay away from temptations we had in our past, so why would we want
to go back and tempt ourselves knowing how hard it was to come out of sin to begin with?
Now I’m not talking about going out into the world to preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ, what I’m talking about is hanging around with those who are not interested in the gospel,
the ones who are tempting us to follow them in their worldly ways, and who are only interested in bringing you back
to their fold of sin. (2nd Peter 3:17) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest
ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. If you have overcome
an alcohol, drug or any other addiction, why would you put yourself in a situation where you might fall? Satan has
many tricks and deceptions for us, and if you think you can outsmart or control you past desires then you’re
fooling yourself. The best weapon against temptation is to avoid being tempted altogether. If someone truly is seeking
help, perhaps the best way to go about it is to take another who is not apt to be tempted by those vices you had
in the past. This is where godly wisdom plays an important part in our growth as Christians. (Prov. 19:8) He
that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Those who remain being in the “them” category are there because
they want to be. Satan is the god of this world, and he will use any trick in the book to keep “them” there. (2nd
Cor. 4:4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest
the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. The choice
is yours to make, are you with “US” and in Christ, or are you with “THEM” and Satan? Only
you can make that decision.
