“A Compassionate Heart”
When the word “Compassion” is brought up, whom do you think of? My immediate thought is
Jesus Christ, because He is the epitome of compassion. Who else would be so diligent in their work? He taught, He
healed, He set great examples, and even gave His life for everyone in this world. (Matt. 9:35-36) And
Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom,
and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with
compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. It takes love,
heart, deep commitment, and devotion to have such compassion for others. And this compassion wasn’t limited
to just a specific few, it was especially for “The Lost Sheep”, or those who had strayed away from the
faith. (Luke 15:1-4) Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And he spake
this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave
the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? This passage clearly
shows that Christ came to redeem that which was lost. The lost sheep are the publicans and sinners. The Pharisees
and Scribes looked down upon them, but not Christ, He looked upon them with compassion, as a parent who sees a child
who’s destroying his or her life, and wants them to repent from that destructive life-style. After all He is
our creator, and everything He’s created, was created for Him. (Col. 1:16) For by him
were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones,
or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Christ left a very clear example of how we should live our lives; we should live our lives following the footsteps
of Jesus Christ. One the most important qualities of a Christian should be the compassion they exhibit to those in
need. Whether their need is physical or Spiritual makes no difference, if our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ thought
one soul was important enough to die for, then we should have that same feeling of compassion for all who are lost
and living in a state of destruction. Just remember, you too were in a state of sin and separation at one time, but
someone with a compassionate and loving heart led you to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So here’s the question,
do you Murmur and look down on sinners? Or do you have a compassionate heart? (Matt 25:40-41,46) And
the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least
of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me,
ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: And these shall go away into everlasting
punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
