The spreading of Gossip is so much easier to do than the spreading of the Gospel; one of the reasons
is because people like to hear dirt on other people. But that’s where we need to be very careful, because we’ve
been commissioned to preach the Gospel, not Gossip. (2nd Tim 4:2-4) Preach the word; be instant
in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when
they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching
ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. We need to realize
that gossiping causes pain to people; it ends friendships, and causes divisions among brethren. But with all that
said, still people continue to gossip. We hear all kinds of excuses, like: “Well, I was just trying to help
out by getting someone else’s advice on the matter”. But the truth of matter is, if you don’t know
how to help that person out, well, let that person seek someone else’s advice. It’s not up to you to
take that person’s problems to anyone else! Unless you have that person’s permission to take it to someone
else, that would be backbiting. (Romans 1:28-32)
Now what we need to be doing rather than gossiping is spreading
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Mark 16:15-16) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned. But why is it that we find it easier to gossip rather than to preach the Gospel? Well as
I said earlier, people don’t want to hear about Jesus Christ, they’d rather hear fables, and lies. As
much harm as gossiping brings to those being talked about, it brings even more harm to those doing the gossiping.
Because I see it this way, if someone comes to me with gossip on their mind, who’s to say that I won’t
be their next conversation?
Two kinds of reputations can be built, a good one or a bad one. A good one is really hard to build, it takes time
and trust of others. But a good reputation can be destroyed in an instant, by gossiping or backbiting. Now a bad
reputation can be built real quick, all it takes is gossiping, backbiting, lying, or telling fables. Now that’s
the kind of reputation you don’t want to have. Now the next time someone comes to you with a “Nonsense” conversation
about so and so, just show them this passage: (Rev. 12:8) But the FEARFUL (or COWARDLY),
and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS,
shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Then maybe,
they’ll start listening to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Rather than giving ear to gossip and lies.
